This is the smallest Natural Monument in the Province of Latina and is found within the built-up centre of Fondi: to enter here, it is best to be accompanied by personnel from the Park of Monti Aurunci, the managing agency. Covering only 5 hectares, the Monument was set up in 2001 to protect a resurgence, emerging at the foot of a small calcareous rise. The abundance of water, also from the pond and surrounding channels, is also evidenced by the “cumbersome” pipes, intakes and structures of the Reclamation Board. The pond is bordered by yellow iris bushes and marsh reeds; willows and alders conceal the surrounding agricultural and urban landscape; the water holds water milfoils that have become a rarity today due to reclamations and pollution. Moorhens can be found here throughout the year, while other species of aquatic birds (ducks) can be seen during their seasonal migratory passages.
